My resources combine behavioural science with spiritual practices.
Behavioural science
Where the former is concerned, I have a master’s degree in sociology, in which I specialise in symbolic analysis and collective imagery: the conscious and subconscious principles that our social and individual worlds are built upon.
This degree entails academic knowledge of spirituality, occultism, and religion throughout various belief systems and esoteric traditions, as they pertain universally to the human perception of fundamental structures – our various ontologies and cosmologies.
I also underwent training in existential counselling and its inherent method of client-centred therapy, a field of psychology and philosophy that purposefully opposes clinical, one-size-fits-all, label-based addresses to mental health and life problems in general. Instead, it focuses on meaning and restores spirituality’s central place in a person’s well-being, regardless of which beliefs and values are in play.
Spiritual practices
As for the latter, I have extensive experience in practices of divination with various tools and systems, which I learnt from an early age and have offered to others as a similar service to DuskLens since 2014.
I am also grateful to benefit from a lifelong familiarity with the perspectives of occultism over what shapes our daily (and world-wide) circumstances, such as (but not limited to) that of Western tropical astrology, as I was raised by a professional practitioner to navigate those foundations from childhood with the proper depth and complexity that they possess. I later studied them in earnest and specialised in them as an adult, alongside my diurnal academic studies. The understanding and use of occult principles is an inherent part of the service I offer today.
Protected titles and licensing
I am not a clinician, as I aim at the opposite approach and therefore, of course, I am not a licensed therapist. The purpose of DuskLens is to support and resolve people’s difficulties without engaging in medicalisation.
While what I impart is quite literally counsel, the title of “counsellor” also has a very specific definition attached to a particular licence in several US states.
As such, I am a counsellor by European and UK standards, but not necessarily by the local regulations in place where you reside. To avoid risking any misconception, I do not use this word as a job title on either side of the ocean. The more accurate term is “advisor”, as it suitably reminds that my services are not limited to psychological support, instead encompassing the entirety of your experience with its much wider range of inquiries.
I am a personal advisor in all matters of psychological, social, worldly and spiritual guidance, to assist in your empowerment, introspection, and authenticity.
Seeking the help you need
If you are looking for a diagnosis, clinical therapy of any kind, or the prescription of medication, you are welcome to address a traditional, licensed professional within your healthcare system instead. This is always your choice, and in some cases the safest way to address a pressing and/or dangerous situation: just like physical urgent care, this type of help can be life-saving. Trust common sense, and remember to always choose your care based on what you most need in this moment no matter what system it involves. You can and will find your ideal solution when you have more room to plan.
DuskLens exists for those who prefer to choose a less clinical, non-institutional path for any reason, ranging from concerns of judgement or privacy to a desire for a more client-centred and all-encompassing approach respectful of every aspect of life and experience, including the unmeasurable.
If you are unsure whether or not you should seek help, or if your sense of hope dwindles, you need to reach out as soon as possible.
Free support is available online, but most importantly in others around you – whether close or distant. Many more people wish to help you than you may think, without suspecting you need it. Speak up.
Solitude in pain is a threat, and does not protect you or others.
Regardless of what you are wrestling with or how serious you believe it to be, please do not remain isolated.
